Then you can see your system type under Device specifications. After you get Windows 10 64 bit or 32 bit downloaded and installed on your PC, you can use the ways to below to keep your OS up-to-date. Windows will automatically detect newer updates for Windows If you find some newer updates available, you can select one to install on your PC. Based on that key, Windows makes a set of features available in the OS.

The features average users need are present in Home. Pro offers more features, but this refers to the built-in functions of Windows, and many of these functions are tools used only by system administrators.

The question is, what are these additional features in the Pro version, and do you need these features? In addition to the user account management features, Windows 10 Pro includes Bitlocker, a Microsoft encryption utility. It can secure either the disk with the OS for example, the C: drive or removable media like thumb drives.

While there are other disk encryption tools available, Bitlocker integrates with your company's infrastructure, meaning your admin can secure your machine without you having to worry about it. Windows Fundamentals includes some features that have been present in Windows for some time, going back to when it was originally separated into Pro and Home versions. The below examples of these have been bumped up to become Pro version upgrades or features that Home users can't use until they upgrade to Pro.

Some Windows 10 Pro advantages won't be as important to the personal computing enthusiast. Nonetheless, it's worth knowing some of the business-focused functions you'd pay for if you upgraded to Pro:. You'll need to choose between Home and Pro when you buy a computer, or when you buy a copy of Windows in a store or online. Take a moment to give it some thought before you make your purchase, for two reasons:.

Brian L This change should be listed in this article since it is a major deal breaker for students like me, who want to use Windows on their home computer.

The only option for me was to downgrade to Pro. I purchased a key for Windows 10 Enterprise from the website "licence-activation" and it works perfectly. I highly recommend. That's interesting as Enterprise Licenses are generally Volume License only. I downloaded and install windows 10 pro creator update, as I think pro version is better that home version. I recently upgrade my windows 10 home operating system to windows 10 Professional being getting a license from ODosta Store Now Windows 10 pro has all features, Which I was looking for many times.

I searched and found your post with boost of information, Which is very helpful for me. Thanks you very much for windowscentral team. The multiple editions are so confusing to people that its simply not worth it. In fact for that matter, now that Windows is a service, just drop the whole "10" thing too. But for Laptops Just ONE! Be done with it!

Or make windows truly modular. Start with a basic install with minimal features, then users who want Home features can add what they want, people who need Pro can add those. I don't understand why the Home version still exist! MS should bring all the extra feature of the Pro version to Home and call it Pro and then add more feature to Pro and call it Ultimate, Business or something along those lines The difference between Home and Pro lies in Pro's ability to join a domain based network.

Leave as is. One would be better for us but for Microsoft financial wise not so much. You left out Windows 10 Pro for Workstations. It supports free usage of ReFS and supports a number of high-end hardware technologies.

Pro for Workstations is really just a highly specialised version of Pro though. Also you can't boot from ReFS volumes yet so it's only for storage at this point.

Would there be any advantage to upgrading from Pro to WS version on a 'normal' but fairly high end pc? Just wondering out of interest if there would be any advantage security, stability etc? Staying on 8. I don't blame you, none of the huge updates that Ms seems intent to push on us, no telelmetry, ok I know MS sent update that have telemtery to windows 8,.

No Apps that keep changing every time MS thinks they have a great new Idea. I did get rid of that, but my machine would not stay stable and kept coming up with a memory management error. INB4 "updates" Windows 10 LTSB would be nice if it could be used officially, no cortana and other stuff that comes with windows 10 normally, but MS will not make it available. So I have Pro, only because it is an update from Windows 8 pro retail, which in itself was an update from Windows 7 pro retail.

TBH, I do not think I really use anything that pro offers differently to home. Windows Central Newsletter. Get the best of Windows Central in in your inbox, every day! Contact me with news and offers from other Future brands.
